it's been a long time ..

a few of you (hi sandy! hi owdonadlwilliamsah!) get on my damn case when i don't update my blog so here goes ..

i've been super busy and whatnot.
and aside from taking off to georgia, with Bella, for a weekend and working a handful of freelance gigs i've been enjoying what may be my new hobby ..

vintage furniture.

i think it started a few months back when Bella and i made our 1st joint purchase. this little chest/end table ..



it was a mess when we bought it but we brought it home, and i cleaned it up and gave it a nice lil oil treatment as soon as we walked in the door.



a couple of weeks ago, while in atlanta, we slid over to little five points and bumped into a vintage furniture shop named 1971. after some yapping and browsing we came across these two pieces ..




we fell in love with them (yep, the end table is attached to the double seater) and after asking prices and shipping costs we find out that the young lady who owns the shop (who was at her baby shower at the time .. congrats renee!) is a friend of mine and we ended up gettin' both pieces on a nice lil discount. so upon our return to nyc, and while waiting on the two pieces to arrive, Bella and i started planning our apartment around them.

that led us to junk in williamsburg. we stopped by and found this set of shelves ..



we knew that it woud be perfect for the 600-700+ records that my dad had given us, so we bought it and asked good ol' dad to come back with us in a couple of days with his trusty van so that we could bring it on home.

fast forward a couple of days, we head back to junk (with my parents in tow and they loved it) to pick up the shelves and we run into this ..



kristy and my mother went crazy over it and i couldn't even front like i didn't love it. it wasn't in our plans to pick up anything else but if you saw the price tag on it then you wouldn't have left it behind either damnit.

so we bough that too ..
and it ended up here ..



at this point the apartment is really starting to come along but we still have a ton of work to do in this place.

now, we're looking at these 2 pieces ..
first one is an expandable coffee table ..



and the second is a vintage stereo system/coffee table ..




if we get the stereo system, i plan on gutting it, rewiring the entire thing and using it as an entertainment center. we'll see.

and nevermind chili's cute ass, i also want these two pieces that Bella just sent me or something similar ..

nokia aeon concept phone.

i've been telling a few people about a phone LIKE this for a bit now. i saw specs for something similar a couple of years ago when i was working at MIT. this damn thing looks SICK. i don't remember if nokia had folk at MIT working on it so i can't say if this was the same exact phone but i know it was something in the same vein.



a ton of other lil fun perks are gonna come with the phone, including but not limited to:
GPS
RFID
garage-door opener
credit card
an electronic wallet with built-in ID
from what i remember there talks of using it as a long range remote for your air conditioner.



who knows if it'll ever come out and if it'll even be a great phone. but i'm curious as hell about it.

so i like playing "silly lil road trip/bored as hell it is too hot to move and get monopoly out" games. here are a couple ..

game one:
today i was introduced to a new one by my brother and cousin. they ain't have a name for it so we'll just call it the movie game.

the game goes a lil something like this ..
name 2 actors that have been in a movie together ..
*jack nicholson & danny devito in one flew over the cuckoo's nest*
take the last actor of the two ..
pair that actor with an actor he's been in a movie with ..
*danny devito & arnold swarchenegger in twins*
keep the chain going ..
*arnold swarchenegger & carl weathers in predator*
keep the chain going ..
*carl weathers & adam sandler in happy gilmore*
keep the chain going ..
*adam sandler & jack nicholson in anger management*
.. and so on and so forth.

you score points by stumping your opponent and stealing a turn.
say my opponent can't go past arnold and carl in predator ..
they give up ..
i succesfully name a matching actor his partner and movie ..
i get the point.

Bella and i played this one for quite some time tonight.


game two:
the other game was one i played with mr hamlyn and
mr morrison on our roadtrip from los angeles to the bay. it's called the acronym game.

basically you start it with a word ..
for example ..
*spanish*
you make an acronym out of the word ..
*spanish - some people are naked inside stranger's homes*
so you take the last word of that acronym and turn that into an acronym ..
*homes - hung over mary ejaculates softly*
and keep it going ..
*softly - sold on fucking, tabitha licked yams*
and keep it going ..
*yams - yesterday adam murdered sea lions*

if you have a g rated mind then this game sucks ..
but if you have no quarrels with making fun of race, religion, crimes, sex and midgets then this game kicks ass.

just don't play it in your living room ..
works better while on tour or road trippin'.

i'm in one of my asshole moods (when ain't it??). seems like the only people that are safe on days like this are people who are assholes just like me and Bella. she doesn't get caught in my verbal drive by.
but yeah ..
today i'm in full swing.



i've hated on the assholes out in this 90º+ weather in corduroy, tank tops as a dress, thick wool suits and thick dark denim.
i've hated on the asshole that eats hard boiled eggs, stinkin' up the office, while chewing with his mouth open.
i've hated on the project i'm working on.
i've hated on the iphone.
and i think i'm about 2 seconds away from punching someone.

all that, it's only 5pm and i ain't going home NO time soon.

i'm still smiling tho.

so i've been taking Ms. Clementine Bellefontaine out for a spin for the last few days .. just a few miles here and there, its a pretty good exercise. before today, the most i'd done was almost 6 miles on monday morning.

but today i jumped on and slid out thru bed stuy ..
up to williamsburg ..
across greenpoint ..
down by the water front ..
under the williamsburg bridge ..
back down to clinton hill
over to ft green ..
and back across bed stuy before i headed home.

i kept mental notes of landmarks and i google map'd the trek when i got home ..


the map isn't 100% accurate, i actually did a lil more than what's on the map, but its pretty damn close ..
all in all, google map says i biked about 13 miles today.

wtf?!

i last spoke to miss jack on friday and i knew she was going thru a few headaches (whic is to be expected, it's music, but its still a job) but she never mentioned anything serious going on with warner. so now i log onto AIM and the 1st thing i get hit with is this. i don't know what the fuck is going on and, being that i'm in nyc, it's too early to call her and find out the dead on truth. so i don't want to say much on their situation.

if it IS true then people who consider themselves fans need to hit up folk at warner and make their voices heard. we all spend time on sites like okayplayer, talking shit with our homies, writing blogs about how the major label world is lacking .. how music we love isn't getting heard .. how radio don't play us .. well we need to stop talking about it and do something. hit up A&Rs .. hit up execs .. i know a ton of y'all that are connected out the ass. stop talking to each other and start yelling at those that make the decisions for us.

as much as i love jack & brook's music, i can't say i would be shocked at a major label pulling something like this .. they do it EVERYDAY .. crush some kids dreams just cause they don't want to go thru the trouble of taking a risk on something that doesn't fit in the current mold. "too black for white radio and too white for black radio" is what i think we heard a few times over.

how many j*davey's, tanya morgan's, and bilal's have to go thru the woe's of this industry before we actually start making our voices heard?

they're way existential.

so i just finished watching clueless with Bella. i've seen it about 3 times since friday and i'd forgotten how much i love this damn movie. but i'd really forgotten how i know damn near every line of this movie. i used to watch it, repeatedly, with my younger sister back when she thought her big brother was still cool enough to hangout with.

i gotta call michelle and set aside a play date for us, i miss that bitch.

portraits 001.

a few of you may remember the polaroid portrait project i did a couple of years ago. well after taking 100+ polaroids of people who i crossed paths with, i decided that i would revist the portrait project again in the near future.

so now, about 2 years later, i'm going to jump on it again. this time i'm going to paint portraits of the people that i share my personal life with.

i started these rough ink sketches on sunday.




of course those are just the 1st steps in the sketch process, hence 4 different sketches of Bella. i'm not going to make these into anything traditional. basically i plan on taking drawings of my subjects and flipping them into paintings that lean towards the nondescript. i'm gonna try and get at least one, hopefully 2, done by the end of june, and i'm going to be posting a few of the steps along the way.

let's see how this one turns out.

there are some tunes hidden in a couple of the past entries on this blog. there are about 4-5 links with albums, eps and mp3s in em. i'm not gonna say what artist or what albums or what songs but it's definitely worth the hunt. i'm gonna keep adding hidden links throughout future entries but once the link is dead i won't be uploading it again. it really shouldn't be hard to find, so happy hunting.

basically, this is what happens when you're on a mess of a tour and you take your free time to goof off instead of thinking about the madness that's going on. i think i'd had about 6 red bulls when we did this. von thinks it was on a different night so i could be wrong. please be very judgemental.
